Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • A "surprise profit" from MBIA Inc (MBI)...
  • Upbeat comments from the CEO of Washington Mutual Inc (WM)...
  • A look into Nike Inc. (NKE) and the Beijing Olympics...
  • A loss and dividend cut for Fannie Mae (FNM)...
  • Word that Google (GOOG) may be forced to take a charge for its AOL investment...
  • Same store sales from McDonald's Corp (MCD)...
  • A settlement for UBS (UBS)...
  • Upbeat comments on Best Buy (BBY), Goldman Sachs Group (GS), JPMorgan Chase (JPM), National Semiconductor (NSM), Northern Trust (NTRS), and Sherwin-Williams (SHW)...
  • A look into the strong performance of small-cap stocks...
  • A concern for retailing stocks....

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest news is one of the stories listed below -

I'll let you make the call as to which story is the "biggest news" today. Though, I do have a question about the third - if police were going to distribute a "celebrity mug shot" for you, which celebrity would they use and what description would they offer? If I get enough emails, I will compile them for posting. The best response will get a prize (which will be determined at a later date - but don't get your hopes too high!).
