Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...

  • A 112% spike in foreclosures...
  • Earnings from Visa Inc (V)...
  • Earnings from MasterCard Inc (MA)...
  • Earnings from U.S. Steel Corp (X)...
  • Earnings from Corning Inc (GLW)...
  • Earnings from Countrywide Financial Corp (CFC)...
  • The release of Grand Theft Auto 4 from Take-Two Interactive Software Inc (TTWO), which is facing "a hostile takeover bid from rival Electronic Arts Inc (ERTS)..."
  • A plan by Wal-Mart Stores (WMT) "to attract consumers' rebate money..."
  • Optimism on Chevron (CVX) as Goldman Sachs added the company "its buy list..."
  • A new plan from the X Prize Foundation "for breakthroughs in biofuels and other alternative-energy fields..."
  • Some short-term optimism on the market...

While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - 300-pound inmate complains Ark. jail doesn't feed him well. According to the article, "An inmate awaiting trial on a murder charge is suing the county, complaining he has lost more than 100 pounds because of the jailhouse menu...he isn't happy that he's down to 308 pounds after eight months ..." It is also said the meals served by the jail "...average 3,000 calories a day..."

So...it would seem that a jail isn't a pleasant place to be? Shocking...
