Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...
- The fire-sale of Bear Stearns (BSC) to JP Morgan Chase & Co (JPM) for $2 a share...
- A pre-open drop of more than 30% for shares of Lehman Brothers Holdings (LEH)...
- A "rare" move by the Fed to cut the discount rate on Sunday...
- Data that showed "manufacturing in New York state fell to the lowest level on record in March as new orders and shipments contracted for a second month"...
- A call to "avoid owning shares of most financial institutions until the industry begins raising up to $1.2 trillion in fresh capital"...
- The purchase of Nymex Holdings by CME Group Inc. (CME)...
While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest story is this - Honey, will you marry... Oh. Never mind......according to the article, "Hajji, of Hackney, east London, had concealed a $12,000 engagement ring inside a helium balloon"...however..."as he left the shop, a gust of wind pulled the balloon from his hand and he watched the ring...sailing away..."
Who possibly could have imagined that sticking a $12,000 ring inside a helium balloon could have ended badly? As Ralph Wiggum might say - that seems unpossible.
Along those same lines, look for a similar response sometime in the future to this - A dozen pregnant women wanted - for ballet...yeah, what could possibly go wrong there...
