Here are some of the contenders for today's biggest...news...of...the...day...
- Earnings from Apple Inc (AAPL)...
- Earnings from AT&T (T)...
- Earnings from Yahoo! Inc (YHOO)...
- Earnings from Wachovia Corp (WB)...
- Earnings from E-Trade Financial Corp (ETFC)...the company also "said it is eligible for a government equity infusion..."
- Earnings from Boeing Co (BA)...
- Earnings from McDonald's Corp (MCD)...
- Earnings from Broadcom Corp (BRCM)...
- Earnings from Applied Biosystems Inc (ABI)...
- Job cuts at Merck & Co (MRK)...
- Continued frustration with the new ratings policies at eBay Inc (EBAY)...
- Optimism on ImmunoGen Inc (IMGN)...
-
- A plunge in SanDisk Corp (SNDK) shares after Samsung Electronics withdrew its bid for the company...
- A warning from BlackRock Inc (BLK) that it "is still too early to make a wholesale commitment to buying equities..."
While those are all stories worth watching, I think it is obviously clear that the biggest news is this set of stories -
- Speeding biker in YouTube video jailed - "...who posted a video on the Internet of him riding at speeds up to 130 miles per hour (208 kilometres per hour) and doing dangerous stunts in Britain was jailed for 12 weeks..."
- Horse gets head stuck in tree - "...young filly needed to be freed from the tree after curiosity got the better of it and it wedged its head between separate sections of the trunk..." [courtesy of my colleague Mark Fightmaster]
- Climbers find footprints of abominable snowman? - "...they had found footprints they think belonged to the abominable snowman or Yeti..."
So...we out that filming and publicizing you doing an illegal activity might not be the brightest move. Who would have thunk it...
In regard to the last two stories, Mark and I had a bit of a disagreement on the topic. He believed that his story was the biggest news of the day while I maintain that Yeti footprints are. After all, this isn't like the last times someone claimed they had evidence of the the old Yet'ster. In that case the footprints had five toes but everyone knows Yetis have only four toes . The story above doesn't say how many toes the current footprints have but I am sure they are the real deal. No one would lie about having proof of a wild hairy creature, would they?
